A brief sequel, to underline the main the point in my last blog. Currently this nation is on a suicide mission. Unbelievable? Well maybe, but true too! Look at the previous 8 August 2026 blog headed Burnham’s big decision. There I relayed the weighty views of leaders of London”s not for profit housing associations, saying that unaffordable house prices are a threat to national growth. A few days later the same message from another weighty source. According to The I Paper Opinion (11 August 2026; Ellie Zolfagharifard, Desperate Times) the Building Societies Association new report says the fact that 10 million are thought to be locked out home ownership and trapped in private renting has created a crisis so severe that it’s become a major threat to the nation’s financial resilience.
These warnings are scary. But based on my own experience of the housing market now prevailing in London and the Home Counties, their doom laden messages are correct. What is worse, although a lasting solution will need 10+ years to introduce and start (and another two decades to deliver) the existing ‘badly housed generation’ do not have the time to wait, unless their quality of life is sacrificed for most of a generation. What a shameful legacy.
