15,000 new homes in Grazeley

On the 26th February 2020 in Grazeley village hall there is an important meeting. Wokingham council’s latest Local Plan update advocates a new town on top of the village. But is this the right place?

For three decades and more, Wokingham’s popularity as a location has drip fed new housing suburbs here and there with little thought about the big picture. The Grazeley proposal by the land owners looks like another big suburb is coming. And then another and another? Is this the best Wokingham can do? Is it the way to protect the open countryside?

There is a solution. In another blog I will examine the causes of the housing crisis; how it can be overcome, no easy task with a broken market, as Theresa May said in 2018, and how Grazeley might avoid the nightmare it faces.
